5 Different Safety Features for Your Next Vehicle

Posted on

Vehicles today are pushing the boundaries in different ways to keep you safe. They are equipped with a range of complex and straightforward advancements designed to keep you safe when driving.

#1: Electronic Stability Control

Electronic stability control is a system that helps keep your vehicle from skidding and losing control when you are making a sudden maneuver, such as braking really sharply or taking a corner quickly.

With ESC, your brakes are activated automatically to assist with steering your vehicle in the correct direction. ESC helps you keep control over your vehicle. A light on your dash with ESC will illuminate when the system is working to help you control your vehicle.

#2: Side Impact Beams

Side impact beams are located in the door and help to protect the driver and passengers when a side impact vehicle accident occurs. In addition, the door beams help absorb the impact of another vehicle in an accident and can protect the occupants inside.

#3: Parking Distance Warning Rear Parking Sensors

A parking distance warning rear parking sensors are sensors that watch for any object within a few feet of the vehicle. If the sensors pick up anything within a few feet of the rear of the vehicle, sensors will go off to alert the driver that there is something behind them.

These sensors can pick up smaller objects, not just vehicles. This will allow the driver to stop and check and see what is behind them and determine if they can proceed to back up or if they need to abandon the maneuver.

#4: Blind-Spot Collision Warning System

A blind-spot collision warning system is a little different than a parking distance warning rear parking sensor. With blind-spot monitoring, a system of radars, cameras, or ultrasonic sensors is used to determine if a vehicle is behind or next to your vehicle.

If a vehicle is picking up with the equipment, a visual warning will alert the driver to the vehicle's presence. Some systems will give an audible or tactical warning as well. This can help prevent backing into another vehicle or side-swiping another vehicle.

#5: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)

A forward collision avoidance assist (FCA) is another system that works to protect you from collisions. It sends out radar waves that reflect off vehicles and objects that are situated in front of your vehicle. The system uses radar waves to determine if you will come into contact with the thing based on the speed of your vehicle and the distance to the object.

If the system determines that a crash is imminent, the system will issue a series of warnings, such as lights, beeps, or vibrations. Some systems will also tighten up your seatbelt to protect you from a crash and will get your brakes ready. Some systems combined FCA with automatic emergency braking.
